My Journey as a Developer: From Nepal to the Global Tech Scene

How I started my career in tech from Nepal, the challenges I faced, and how I grew into a Full Stack Developer and Cybersecurity Expert.

The Beginning

#

Every developer has a story of how they first fell in love with code. For me, Tarka Raj Jaishi, it started with curiosity — a deep desire to understand how websites and applications work. Growing up in Nepal, access to advanced tech resources was limited, but that only fueled my determination.

Learning the Fundamentals

#

I started with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — the building blocks of the web. Those early days of creating simple web pages felt magical. From there, I dove into:

  • Python — My first backend language, perfect for automation
  • React — Transformed how I think about building interfaces
  • Node.js — Unified frontend and backend under one language

The Cybersecurity Awakening

#

As I built more applications, I realized security was fundamental. A single vulnerability could compromise everything. This led me to study cybersecurity seriously:

  • Learned penetration testing methodologies and tools
  • Studied OWASP Top 10 and defense strategies
  • Practiced on HackTheBox and TryHackMe
  • Applied security principles to every project

Building Real Projects

#

I channeled my knowledge into real-world projects:

  • Portfolio Platform — Next.js with headless CMS, Prisma, Cloudflare R2
  • E-commerce Solutions — Secure online stores with payment integration
  • Content Management Systems — Custom CMS for businesses
  • Security Tools — Automated vulnerability scanners

Embracing DevOps

#

Deploying taught me the importance of infrastructure:

  • Docker for containerization
  • GitHub Actions for CI/CD
  • Cloudflare for CDN and edge computing
  • Linux server hardening

Lessons Learned

#
  1. Start with fundamentals — Core concepts last forever
  2. Security first — Build secure from day one
  3. Never stop learning — Stay curious and adaptable
  4. Build in public — Share your work and learnings
  5. Community matters — Connect, mentor, and learn
