This is the personal site of Tarka Raj Jaishi. It collects as little as it can: only what you choose to send, plus what is needed to keep accounts signed in and the site safe from abuse. Visits are counted only by the site's own anonymous reader count, which sets no cookies and does not identify you (see below). There is no advertising or tracking, and nothing is sold or shared for marketing.

What is stored, and why

Contact form. Your name, email address, subject and message, so they can be read and answered, and, only if you choose them, your project type, budget range and timeline. They are emailed to the site owner and kept until deleted by the site owner.

Comments. The comment text and the post it belongs to. Signed-in readers' comments are linked to their account; guests give a display name, which is shown with the comment. No email address is asked of guests. If you have an account with a verified email address, you are emailed when someone replies to your comment (the article title and a link, not the reply itself); you can turn this off in your profile settings.

Newsletter. Your email address, when you subscribed and confirmed, and whether you are still subscribed. You are only added after clicking the confirmation link emailed to you, and every issue carries a one-click unsubscribe link. If the site owner turns on the weekly digest, it lists the week's new articles; you can choose which topics it includes on the page your unsubscribe link opens, and those choices are stored with your subscription.

Accounts. Your email address, name and any profile details you add (bio, website, location, avatar URL). Passwords are stored only as a salted one-way hash (Argon2id), never in readable form. If you change your email address, a confirmation link is sent to the new address and a notice to the old one; the new address is stored with that request until it is used or expires (24 hours).

Security. To limit abuse of the forms, the IP address of a request is stored with the action it attempted; these records are deleted after 24 hours. A signed-in session also records the IP address and browser it was started from, so you can recognise it; the session ends when you sign out or after 30 days without use. Your profile settings list where you are signed in, showing the browser, an approximate last-active time and the first part of the IP address, and let you sign out any of them.

View counts. Each article and video has a simple counter of how often it was opened, and articles also keep a count per day. Nothing about you is stored with them.

Readers online now. While a page of this site is open and visible, your browser tells the server which page it is on every 30 seconds, so the site owner can see how many people are reading right now. It sends a random identifier that exists only in that browser tab and is gone when you close it, and the page address without any query string. No cookie is used, and no IP address, browser details or account are stored for this. These records are deleted after one day. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, nothing is sent.

Cookies and browser storage

tarka_session keeps you signed in (only set when you sign in; not readable by scripts). tarka_guest is a random identifier that lets a guest remove a reaction they added; it contains no personal information.

Your browser's local storage holds a few display preferences that never leave your device: light or dark theme, accent colour, your recent searches, and the name you last commented under. Each open tab's session storage holds the random identifier used for the readers-online count above; it is deleted when the tab closes.

Services this site uses

Cloudflare delivers the site and its images, and stores uploaded images. Resend sends the site's emails (newsletter confirmations and issues, password resets, account verification, email-change confirmations and notices, reply notifications, and contact-form notifications to the owner). Videos on the Learn page are played through YouTube or Facebook embeds, which apply their own privacy policies once you play them. Articles based on GitHub projects show preview images served by GitHub.

Your choices

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter from any issue, and delete your account from your profile page. Deleting it removes the account, its profile, sessions, reactions and bookmarks; comments you wrote stay on the articles but are no longer linked to you. To see, correct or remove anything else, such as a contact message or a comment, write to contact@tarkarajjaishi.com.np.
